About

Carpooling is a flexible, convenient and less-expensive way to reach your destination, and if you commute over Bay Area bridges, you can cross toll-free. Additionally, carpooling helps reduce vehicle emissions to help keep our air cleaner. Carpool as many days as you want, one-way or roundtrip. All you need is one or two other people to make it work. Carpool with neighbors, coworkers, family, friends from the gym. Or sign up with the FREE 511 RideMatch Service to instantly find other people who live and work nearby to share commutes.

Getting Started:

Step One—Sign up Free

Sign up with the free 511 RideMatch Service. Move, take a new job or change schedule? Simply log on and update your personal rideshare profile as often as you want.

Step Two—Make a Match

After you register, you’ll immediately receive a customized Matchlist of people who have similar commutes and want to share rides. Contact everyone! Their hours may be flexible and may be willing to meet near you. Get together for coffee and try commuting a day or two together.

If you don’t find matches right away, be patient. Each week, hundreds of commuters join our rideshare database—and, chances are, some of them are going your way!

Step 3—Make a Plan

Who drives and when? Door-to-door service or meet at one central spot like a Park & Ride Lot. If everyone drives, decide how to rotate days. Keep it flexible. Vanpools should designate a back-up driver.

Want a greener environment and wallet? See how much money you could save and how to help reduce CO2 emissions by carpooling with our Commute Calculator.
