Commute Rewards - Tax Benefits
Pay for certain commute costs with pre-tax* dollars and reap the benefits. Under Section 132(F) of federal tax code, an employer can offer its employees up to $130 per month for qualified transit or vanpool costs, and up to $250 in parking costs. Or, an employer may offer $20 per month for bicycling costs.
Here's how to take advantage of the benefit:
- Ask your employer if Commuter Tax Benefits are offered. Usually your Human Resources or Benefits department will know. If benefits are not offered, ask an Employer Services Representative at 511 Rideshare to help you get started.
- Make sure you're using a qualifying commute alternative. The benefit is available to commuters who travel in a vanpool, use public transit or pay for qualified parking. (Carpooling does not currently qualify for pre-tax benefits.)
