San Francisco Vanpool Parking Permits

511 Rideshare facilitates the San Francisco Vanpool Parking Permit process by providing this information and the process for payment. The SF Department of Parking and Traffic is the issuing and enforcement agency for the vanpool permits. The following policies and procedures are set by the SF Department of Parking and Traffic and 511 Rideshare operates in accordance with them.

To qualify for a new permit, the vanpool vehicle must transport at least 7 riders including the driver up to a maximum of 15. The vehicle must be registered with the 511 Regional Rideshare Program; to confirm, call 511 and say "Rideshare".

  • Only vans or SUV’s with 7 to 15 passengers are eligible for vanpool parking (cars, station wagons, etc. DO NOT qualify)
  • Permits allow vans to park at any meter with a time limit of 60 minutes or longer
  • Parking spaces are available on a first-come-first-served basis (spaces are not reserved or pre-assigned)
  • Permits are assigned to the vehicle not the driver (vehicle registration information is required)
  • Vehicles with outstanding citations will not be issued permits until the citations are cleared. 511 Rideshare is not responsible for parking citations. Outstanding citations can be paid at the SF Department of Parking and Traffic, which is located at: 11 South Van Ness Ave, San Francisco, CA 94103, Attn: Vanpool Permits.

To process your permit application, the following information will be required. Please have the information available before continuing.

  • Vehicle information including license plate, year, make, model, and number of passengers
  • The vanpool's contact person including home address, work address and phone, and employer HR contact number for verification purposes
